Cases from the ISET Archives: Complex Venous Cases – What Happens After the Procedure?

Constantino S. Peña, MD, is an interventional radiologist at the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute at Baptist Hospital in Miami Florida where he serves as the Section Head for interventional radiology and the Medical Director of Vascular Imaging. He is the Radiology Partners Interventional Radiology National Subspecialty Division Lead and the Chairman of the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute Management Company. 

Dr. Pena completed his residency in Diagnostic Radiology as well as a Vascular and Interventional fellowship at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA. He has served on the Annual Meeting Committee of the SIR and served as the meeting Chairman for the SIR meeting. He has served as the Chair of the Cardiovascular Radiology & Intervention Council of the American Heart Association (AHA) and a board member of the IAC CT. He has served on several committees for many professional organizations, including the ABR, ACR, RSNA, and the SIR. Dr. Peña is a fellow of the SIR, AHA, and SCCT. 

A member of the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute and Miami Cancer Institute physician team, Dr. Gandhi specializes in minimally invasive treatments for peripheral vascular disease, cancer, and other diseases.

Dr. Gandhi completed his undergraduate studies at Northwestern University and Harvard University. He graduated summa cum laude. He received his degree in medicine from Northwestern University Medical School, where he also graduated with honors. Following medical school, he completed a surgical internship at Cornell University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital. He completed his residency training and fellowship at UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Gandhi also dedicated an entire year to biomedical research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center and served as a research fellow at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Prior to joining Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute, he was an international visiting scholar at Asan Medical Center/University of Ulsan Medical School in Seoul, South Korea. He has published numerous scientific papers, authored several textbook chapters, and presented his research at national and international meetings.

He is also a fellow of the Society for Vascular Medicine and a fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology. He is the co-author of the textbook Interventional Oncology. Dr. Gandhi is also a Program Director for the International Symposium on Endovascular Therapy (ISET) and Symposium on Clinical Interventional Oncology (CIO).

Dr. Geronemus received his undergraduate degree from Indiana University and his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine in Tampa, Florida. He completed a residency in diagnostic radiology at the University of South Florida College of Medicine, as well as a fellowship in interventional radiology at Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute.

Dr. Geronemus is Board-Certified in Diagnostic Radiology with a Certificate of Added Qualification in vascular and interventional radiology.

Ian Del Conde M.D., FACC, FSVM, is a cardiologist and vascular medicine specialist at the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute.

In addition to being a cardiologist with a large practice, he has additional training in diseases that affect the arterial and venous systems. He leads several clinical programs within the Miami Cardiac and Vascular Institute, including the Vascular Medicine Program, the Hypertension Clinic, and the Venous Thrombosis program.

Dr. del Conde has authored numerous articles and book chapters that have been published in peer-reviewed periodicals, and has been an invited speaker to numerous national and international medical meetings.

His clinical research focuses on developing new diagnostic tools and therapies to advance the care of patients with cardiovascular disease. Dr. del Conde completed internal medicine residency training at Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

He completed fellowship training in cardiology and vascular medicine at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, in New York City. He is fluent in English and Spanish.

Dr. Velazquez joined Wake Forest Baptist Health in 2014 after completing her training in General Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, GA followed by a Vascular and Endovascular Surgery Fellowship at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. She is an Associate Professor of Surgery and also serves as the Director of the Vascular Surgery Fellowship Program at Wake Forest School of Medicine.

The hospital and community are committed to providing excellent patient care. She has loved being part of the mission and she treats her patients like family. She sees patients at the Winston-Salem and High Point Campuses. Her clinical practice includes prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of vascular surgery pathologies and its complications including arterial aneurysms, endoleak treatment, aorto-iliac occlusive disease, mesenteric and reno-vascular disease, infected arterial grafts, peripheral arterial disease, and carotid disease. Her academic interests and research focuses are renovascular and mesenteric disease, aroto-iliac occlusive disease, infected arterial grafts and surgical education, leadership and diversity, and inclusion.

Alex Powell, MD, is an Interventional Radiologist and Medical Director of Interventional Radiology at the Miami Cardiac & Vascular Institute. Dr. Powell received his medical degree from the University of Michigan School of Medicine and completed his residency in diagnostic radiology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, where he was also Chief Resident. He completed a fellowship in interventional radiology at the University of California. Dr. Powell has numerous publications in scientific journals including book chapters and he has lectured in national and international conferences.

Dr. Powell holds academic positions including Affiliate Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of South Florida and Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at Florida International University Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine.
